As we move into our last week of school before conferences, I just want to remind you that parent-teacher conferences will be taking place on November 22nd and 23rd. Please see below for more detailed information about conferences. Progress reports for the first trimester will be available electronically on Friday, November 19th. Students will not be in school from November 22nd - 26th. Please email or call if you have any questions.

November is a time to reflect and show thanks to those around us. We are so grateful for our students, staff, families, and community. As a way to share this gratitude, send your appreciation to a Sycamore Community School District 427 staff member! Deadline for submissions is Friday, November 19, 2021, and certificates will be emailed out the following week.
Your student’s first trimester progress report will be available around noon on Friday, November 19th, in your Campus Parent Portal account. To access their progress report, please follow these steps:
- Log in to your Campus Parent Portal account.
- Click “documents” from the menu on the left.
- Select the progress report you would like to view. Your student’s progress report will open in a PDF file.
These steps are demonstrated in this video.
Conferences for the 1st Trimester are currently being scheduled with classroom teachers. Teachers are using Sign-Up Genius to complete this process. You will be receiving information from your child's teacher about conferences this week (if you haven't already). If you have any questions or need help scheduling these, please contact the SE Office at (815) 899-8219for assistance. Conferences will be held on Monday, November 22nd from 1:00 - 8:00 PM and Tuesday, November 23rd from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Conferences on Monday the 22nd will be in-person conferences and conferences on Tuesday, the 23rd, will be virtual. It is our goal to reach 100% of our parents!
Cool weather is here! As temperatures continue to drop, be sure your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. When the temperature is 60° or below, all students are expected to wear a jacket. When the temperature is below 40° students should wear winter coats, hats and gloves. If students wish to play in the snow they must have on boots and snow pants.
Also, please note that students will go outside for recess unless the temperature and/or wind chill is below zero. If you need assistance with any winter gear, please contact the office.
Vaccination Commonly Asked Questions
I have had several parents reach out about vaccination questions as our students are now eligible to receive the COVID 19 vaccine. I wanted to provide the answer to some commonly asked questions.
- Is the school running a vaccination clinic?
- Not at this time. Please reach out to your primary care provider or a local pharmacy.
- If my student is fully vaccinated will they have to be excluded from school if deemed a close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID 19?
- No, a fully vaccinated student who is symptom free doesn't have to be excluded if exposed to a positive individual.
- If my student is fully vaccinated can I turn in their COVID 19 vaccination information?
- Yes, we will enter this into the students health information like all other vaccinations.
Southeast PTO Meeting Date
The date for our November PTO Meeting has been changed. The date was originally on November 16th, but that is also the night that our band concert is scheduled. The new date for the November meeting will be on Tuesday, November 30th at 6:30 PM. Remember that you can attend the meeting in person or choose to attend it virtually. Trash Bin Cleaning Fundraiser
Are your Trash Bins Stinky and Full of Bacteria?
If so, Southeast PTO is partnering up with Eco Trash Bin Clean, https://ecotrashbinclean.com, to steam, disinfect, and actually make your bins smell great!
Eco will be donating $5 dollars back to Southeast Elementary School for each house that schedules a cleaning. The avg price for 2 bins is $35

Music News from Mrs. Miller
Music is off to a great start this year! It has been wonderful to have students back in the classroom making music together. In kindergarten, we have been practicing keeping a steady beat in a variety of ways as well as learning about the four categories of small percussion instruments, learning how to care for them, and are practicing playing them all.
In first, second, and third grade, we have been focusing on rhythm to start the year. First graders have learned how to read, write, and play quarter notes and eighth notes. Second graders have reviewed the first grade rhythm set and added half notes. Third graders have reviewed the second grade rhythm set and began learning about syncopation.
Fourth and fifth graders have begun learning how to play the recorder. We have worked on skills such as creating a nice sound on the recorder, learning the correct hand position, and learning to play our first few notes. They will be ready to begin playing songs for their recorder belts very soon! They can find all of the recorder belts on the Music Google Classroom and are welcome to begin practicing them anytime.
Fourth and fifth grade choir has started. We are busy preparing for our first concert which is on December 16th. It is not too late to join choir. If your child is interested, choir is held on either Monday morning at 7:50 AM or Monday after school until 4 PM. They can choose the time that works best for them. Sycamore School District's Travel Guidance
At this time, staff and students will not need to be excluded after traveling (domestic or international). Individuals who have traveled should closely monitor symptoms for 14 days after arriving home. If symptoms develop, that individual should stay home and notify their school. It is recommended that those who travel internationally should test 3-5 days after returning. Although not required, BinaxNOW testing is available through the district to staff and students who have traveled internationally and choose to pursue recommended testing.
School Year Reminders
- Morning drop-off on Monday-Wednesday and Friday is 8:30 AM. Supervision is not available before that time. Please try to send your student to school between 8:30 and 8:45 AM.
- Each Thursday our school will have a late start. School begins at 9:30 AM, with drop-off beginning at 9:15 AM.
- All students should bring a water bottle. Our drinking fountains are turned off, but our bottle fillers remain on.
- All students should wear a clean, well-fitted mask that covers their nose, mouth and chin, snug around the cheeks with no gaps. All masks should be multiple layers made up of two or more washable, breathable fabric. Spare masks in a backpack or left at school are important as masks may tear, get wet, or need to be replaced throughout the day.
- If your child is feeling sick or if you have a person exhibiting COVID symptoms in your home, please do not send your child to school. Call us for details on your next steps.
- Students arriving or departing school on a bike should remember to get off and walk it once on school grounds. This helps keep our other friends and guests safe as they walk to school or wait for their students for the evening.
Volunteers and Visitors at Sycamore Elementary Schools
In an effort to maintain the safest learning environment possible for our students and staff we will be limiting the number of visitors and volunteers to the building at this time. As part of this commitment, we will be requiring all visitors who enter the building past the office during the school day to be vaccinated. We will also only be allowing volunteers at school activities who are vaccinated. If you are asked to be a volunteer or a visitor at our building please know that you will have to submit proof of your vaccination status to the office prior to entering the building or volunteering at the event. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please call the school office if your student is feeling ill, and be prepared to answer a few questions that will help us quickly and efficiently evaluate your child so that we can provide you information based on the latest recommended guidelines. It is imperative that if your student is experiencing ANY of the following symptoms, your student should stay home from school and any extracurricular activities outside the home.
- Temperature of 100.4 (or greater) degrees fahrenheit/38 degrees Celsius;
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing;
- Muscle and body aches;
- Moderate to severe headache;
- Sore throat;
- New loss of taste or smell;
- Diarrhea; or
- Any other COVID-19 symptoms identified by the CDC or IDPH.
We know that things may look a little different this year and we are committed to keeping you informed on the changes that are taking place. Here is an overview of what your student can expect if they come to the Health Office with any of the symptoms listed above:
- The student will be brought to the health office where the nurse or their designee will quickly evaluate the student’s condition.
- If it is determined that they are experiencing any COVID like symptoms the student will be escorted to a designated and supervised isolation area.
- The school nurse will notify the parent/guardian and walk them through the process of what is required for the student to return to school.
- Sick students should be safely transported home by parent or guardian as soon as possible.
- Siblings/household members of the symptomatic student may also be sent home.
- Students will be expected to remain home from school and any extracurricular activities until cleared to return by the school nurse.

Federal aid is now available specifically to help families pay for high-speed internet service, plus a computer or tablet. It’s called the Emergency Broadband Benefit, and it provides discounts of up to $50 a month for high-speed internet along with a one time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet purchased through a participating provider.
Households qualify if anyone in the household is eligible for the free and reduced-price school lunch or breakfast programs; participates in SNAP, Medicaid, or Lifeline; received a Federal Pell Grant this year; or lost significant income due to furlough or job loss since Feb. 29, 2020.
